The painting, finished in December 2018, was inspired by my trip to Sudan where I witnessed the initial protest in Khartoum and other demonstrations in Burry, Omdurman, Al Gadarif, and Atbara. Represented by different landmarks in the corners, each region holds significance in the revolution. At the center stands a young Sudanese woman, symbolizing the new generation who fought against injustice, civil wars, and defeat. Surrounding her are figures who are considered heroes of the revolution: a child from Gadarif, the first to be fatally shot by the police, a mother who buried her son and placed the Sudanese flag atop his grave, a group of men carrying the body of a young protester to their final resting place, a young man wearing a mask made of the Sudanese flag and holding a stone, a child distributing sandwiches to the demonstrators, as well as disabled individuals, blind individuals, women, and doctors.
